The home uses tube fluorescent and compact fluorescent lighting fixtures exclusively, with exception to the mini halogen lights in the elevator cab. The 2-pin and 4-pin bulbs used in the fixtures produce warm, inviting light, by utilizing low temperature high-CRI (Color Rendering Index) CFL bulbs. By utilizing CFL bulbs, the home uses approximately ¼ the energy for lighting of a typical home with halogen or incandescent fixtures. The bulbs have the added benefit of an average life expectancy of 10 years.
Wherever possible, appliances with an ENERGY STAR rating have been used for areas such as the kitchen (refrigeration and dishwashing). A high-efficiency, front loading ENERGY STAR washer can be found with its matching dryer stacked in the Laundry room. ENERGY STAR rated ceiling fans, located in all bedrooms, help to circulate air and reduce the need for air-conditioning while using little energy themselves.
To conserve water, dual-flush, electrically-operated toilets supplied by Kohler are installed in all baths, each of which can save up to 5,000 gallons of water per year. Additionally, irrigation water for the site is supplied from the return well for the geothermal system, conserving valuable city water.
